If that's the case I wonder why Nikon Europe are saying "The issue can be remedied at source by revising the camera firmware, a procedure which will be carried out as standard during a normal service, or on demand at your Nikon service repair centre when available in the near future." and not offering the free update service like Nikon USA?
I doubt a "fatal" error would completely kill the camera - plus it does have a hard reset button (the small square hole above the DC-IN socket).
