"MB-D100 batteries"

I have a D100 with the MB-D100 battery pack.

Whilst waiting for the EN3 battery to initially charge, I inserted 6 fresh alkaline batteries into the holder to try out the camera. As most folks will know alkaline battery performance is poor.

My experience with the internal flash firing:
First shot fires OK
Second attempt causes shutter and mirror to lock open/up
D100 shows "Err" on top LCD.

The camera instructions says press shutter again and have camera serviced if problem persists. They quote 400+ shots.

My initial reaction was either the grip or camera are faulty. But from what I have read the performance is especially poor.

If this is so, why did Nikon even bother to supply an AA holder?

IMHO The smart move would have been to supply a second EN3 (to use with main camera battery).

EN3 battery performance is however incredible!
