"If you got the bucks...why not both?"

Hey Liege, Darrell is right on this one. I've seen a few shots with the 5700 - nice stuff. 5 MP ain't bad at all. I should have bought the 5700 as my point and shoot. I own both the D100 and S2 Pro - both great photographic instruments. But I also bit the bullet a few months ago and bought the Fuji finepix 602Z. It has tons of features, but I should have abstained and purchased the 5700 instead. Fuji's 3.1 true MP interpolated to 6 MP via their super CCD is okay, but you can see jagged edges and other artifacts. True 5 MP is far superior to anything interpolated in a point and shoot variety of camera. Oh well, I can always give that one to the wife. Heck, she still thinks 1600 ISO films show tremendous detail and color saturation (geezzzzz).

In a way, I wouldn't go so far as to say the 5700 is a point and shoot ('cause that's an expensive point and shoot). Let's face it, there are times when you want to travel light - not lugging all of the D100's accessories around. Let's say you are going to a party, or to a quick gathering of relatives - or even a quick trip. It's nice to be able to have a small, light camera along for that type of commute.

But mannn, when you have the time and the scene, the D100 becomes an awesome instrument to capture images in tricky light situations.

I love that reference to the "snoot factor" that Darrel mentioned. I'm sitting here laughing my butt off. But you know, it's kind of true. You may be walking down the street, or in a park, and you have that D100 wrapped around you neck (complete with SB-80DX and the MBD-100...plus a nice and thick official Nikon neck strap), and people turn around and oogle - well, those in the know at least. Wow, in a way we're still kids aren't we!!!

Regards,

Good Shooting...
