I have owned many digital cameras and I can honestly say that the d100 is the best so far. I recently switched from Minolta to Nikon and I haven't regretted the change at all. My first thought was that the minolta dimage 7hi gave me better out of the camera shots than my d100. I fought with my olympus e-10 every day. The images were soft and the colors always need adjustments. It also took very little editing to ruin the photos. Noise was a big issue.
I have owned the Dl00 since November and my images improve every day. It's taking some learning though. I don't use the default settings. It doesn't bother me. I feel that I have to put some effort in getting good photos. I use raw not jpgs. I take custom white balances almost all the time. I've tried some custom curves and have used them. I purchased a great lens and plan to get another one as soon as I can afford it. I can honestly say that I don't spend much time editing in photoshop anymore. Mostly just to get the photo cropped to the size I want to print. It has taken me 3 months though to get to this place with the camera. Since I don't print bigger than 11x14 I really feel that I can use this camera for a long time. I laughed when I read some of the reviews for the new canon d1s. They said that the default settings rendered soft photos. Imagine that at 8,000.00.
