I have and use both the D7000 and the D300. I use both typically putting the longer glass on the D300 and shorter zoom on the D7000. Each camera has its advantages. The D300 wins for fast frame rate and depth of buffer ( which is important when I am shooting action) while the D7000 can almost take a usable picture in a dark room. I shoot quite a bit of low light stadium and theatre environments. Frankly put, if frame rate or depth of buffer aren't important to you, the D7000 wins.
