As a current D80 owner of 8 years and considering replacing my camera body none of the current Nikon line up seem to provide me with an optimum specification. All to varying degrees are a compromise or have unnecessary features and functions.
My wish for the D300 replacement would be a digital version of the F100 or F3. A robust and professional grade camera that has only the essential functions and gets out of the way to allow me to locus on (bad pun alert) taking pictures. My F100 and Nikkormat do this and I have never missed a picture with either. The current vogue for multiple menus and the "Swiss Army knife" approach to functionality is simply getting in the way. Too much choice is often as stifling as no choice at all.
My wish for a new D400 is a stripped down professional dx format camera that will allow me to master my art form.
