Thanks Len and Gary,

I agree that the proper setting showing up in the EXIF file is important for reference, and I thank you both for pointing that out. I do use the lens most frequently at the long end of 300mm, with the TC, but I like the flexibility to zoom in or out a little if needed. I think I have played with using center-weighted and spot metering, just to see how it affected things. That lens/TC combination is not something I want to carry around much, but it is fun to play with, and the lens renders beautiful images, provided I get everything else right. Thanks again for your informative responses!
