Hi Chris,

Unless the damage is severe, it should be much cheaper to repair the camera than to replace it.
I would send the camera to Nikon Service or a Nikon Authorized Service Station and get an estimate. I know that APS (NASS) in Morton Grove IL will provide a free estimate and wait for approval before proceeding with the repair. If you tell a NASS the problem they might be able to provide a guestimate over the phone.

While you will have to pay shipping it should be cheaper than the $50.00 your local shop wants to charge you.
