Maybe not so pedantic. I once met a Nikon shooter who insisted the D300 was a better camera than the D700 because it has more megapixels - 12.3mpx vs 12.1. And he did it with a totally straight face, such that I had to ask a few questions to make sure he really believed that was the differentiation in performance and image quality.
I learned something about camera marketing from that discussion. He was shooting a D300, of course.
