Is there anything that a D400 is expected to leave out of a D4 to be considered pro, other than a smaller sensor? The market might be there for a $1800 DX camera but it is not a camera with the features posted as being pro worthy. About the only thing that some, but not all, would accept as being left out is the integrated grip. Everything else is needed for high end performance of a D7100 but with fast bullet proof body with AF that can track at 9fps++

There seems to be a lot of resistance to the new bodies based on deal breaker features while all admit the new cameras capture better images.
I have seen several fields change technologies and the reaction is often the same, resistance in the face of changes in demand by clients.
If the wedding shooters are only hiring second cameras with current pro level work, it is a cost, and a reasonble one, as entry into the field. If I was given the choice of hiring people who took the job seriously enough to stay current with gear versus those who did not, I would have no hesitation in who I would hire.
I was in part of a field that went digital with much lower priced light weight equipment, the recording field, where "big iron" was needed for decades to be competitive, meaning $500,000 mixing consoles and $200,000 in effects, and $85,000 for each of several tape decks needed for each room. my studio had 3 such rooms. Digital created a similiar resistance, when consoles without physical control surfaces were $10,000 and no tape decks were needed. The specs were great but us old timers resisted since "real" pro recording was only that done on the great classic old gear that took a maintenance budget of $100,000 per room per year. As a business, it made most sense to get the new gear and even clients were demanding it. The new habits and technologies were great leveling factors and it drove down the price of recording dramatically, which made it less possible to maintain a commercially viable business. The same is going on now with video and still shooting. New habits are either learned or one retires, that is how commercial work goes in any field.
