What I said was that by using two cameras, I can cover 28-200mm without changing lenses. That's because I mount my 28-70mm f/2.8 on my D300s, and I mount my 70-200mm f/2.8 VR on the D200. I'm pretty sure you can't cover 28-200mm at f/2.8 with any single lens.
And as far as the math I was doing, what I was saying was that if I, for example, use my 70-200mm lens (it's an FX lens), on the D300s and then on the D600, it is true that I get more "apparent" zoom on the D300s. But I can get the same field of view with the same number of pixels on the D600 by cropping the picture to 12 megapixels. I wasn't talking about mounting a DX lens on the D600. The DX crop mode crops to 10 megapixels, IIRC.
