I don't think you are unusual at all. However, everyone's uses are different.

When I shoot landscapes, or macro, or whatnot, I may shoot 100 images. When I shoot fashion, I may shoot 250 images per session, though I shot twice that many on my last shoot. When I shoot sports, I may shoot 300-500 an hour... and I may have up to 5 cameras firing.

If you know you are going to go through over a thousand frames, and you can't get to that camera for a few hours, you buy large capacity cards.
