Hi Ned,

If the DOF Preview button fixed the problem, the root cause is either sticking aperture blades in the lens or a malfunctioning stop down mechanism in the camera body.
If it only happens with one lens, that would indicate the problem is in the lens.
If it happens with any lens that you mount on the camera, the problem is in the camera body.
