Sadly, noise on images at high ISO is probably always going to be a problem. A lot depends on what you are going to do with the image of course. It is also inevitable that, as technology marches on, noise at high ISO will be better controlled. Having looked at some images from the new D600 (downloaded and viewed at 100%) I used photoshop to try and clean up the ISO 12800 one. I thought that the result was acceptable, even good, but it might not suit eveyone. If you can wait for an upgrade to D400 it could well be worth the wait, but, of course, it will come at a price!
