I bought the grip for the extra battery capacity and the improved grip size (I have big hands and the "body only" felt a bit insecure to me)
That said, you will only get the improved FPS rate using AA batts or the En-el4a battery, just putting another en-el3e in only gives longer shooting capacity, not extra FPS.
Personally I looked at a number of non-Nikon alternative battery grips (which of course were a lot cheaper!) before deciding that it was not worth the risk of trashing the camera body for a (relatively) small additional cost saving.
I do not regret getting the grip one bit and it stays on the camera all the time.
I have done a few BIF images and frankly 7FPS is pretty good IMO
