Dave points out some interesting observations -

I like the grip because it affords a very secure way to hold and operate the camera in a vertical/portrait orientation. Additionally, when i photograph birds I often don't have a pre-conceived notion of the actual movements and poses that I'll be afforded. . . so I feel the more views I can capture in a sequence - the better.
