The "r12" display isn't an error message - it's just telling you how may shots the buffer has room for with the current camera settings. This display appears every time the shutter release is half-pressed; it's just that normally we don't notice it

If the shutter will sometimes not fire, the answer must lie elsewhere - perhaps the camera has not acquired focus and is in "Focus Priority"...?
