Thanks for the advice Charlie. Actually this post was meant to be two folded, one for "the importance of build quality to beginner photographers" and the other for the hot pixels. However, I think you are right, maybe I should've had two posts.
As for exceeding 800 ISO, I was only doing it for testing purposes (I think the setting was Auto ISO). The testing software gave me 3/6/8 hot pixels at different ISOs and shutter speeds. I could only see 4. The blue one is there regardless of ISO.
I am going to keep the camera despite the hot pixels. My D3000 had them and also the D90 so I guess it's become a fact of life, I just have to learn to live with them.
