Thanks for sharing your experience Richard, it just reassures me that I made the right decision especially from someone like you who has a D700 and a D7000. I second what you said about the D90 being a great camera and it never failed me and taught me a lot. But to this day I have never been so excited about and in love with a "toy" as I am with the D300, and this is coming from a toy addict! Add to that it's really impressive performance.
I had it for almost two weeks now and I am learning everything about it with eager and excitement and shooting everyday with different techniques, settings and places, and I am still eager to learn more. And this is exactly what I am talking about, how much loving your camera makes you a better (or at least wanting to be better) photographer. This factor can only be attributed to build quality and ergonomics.
