The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 is also listed at Sony's site and everywhere else as having an Imaging Sensor : 1.0" (13.2 x 8.8mm) Exmor™

13.2mm times 8.8mm is 116.16 square mm or 0.18 square inches.
So they are not talking about area.
Neither about the diagonal that is 15.8644 mm or 0.6246 inches.

But it seems only you has asked from where that 1" comes from
