Coincidentally, I have been shooting shaded waterfall scenes which have a very high difference of contrast (very white, bright waterfall and very dark shaded areas) which would explain something. But I still don't understand why there is a difference in what the meter is telling me and what the histogram is telling me and the resultant exposure difference of the images.
