I owned both the D7000 and D300, and second Charlie's opinion.

Better higher ISO performance with the D7000. I also actually like the compact feel of the D7000, with the only exception being that I focus using the back AE-L/AF-L button, and find it a bit cramped, position-wise, compared to the D300, but not bad.
