Considering the D800 has more "reach" than the D300, I have no idea what you are trying to say, Jim. Other than you are bitter, for no good reason at all. To the point where nothing you just said made any sense.

All else equal, except a little frame rate, you will never convince me that throwing out half the film chip delivers better images. Never. No one ever shot wildlife or sports on a Nikon Pronea because it was a better idea. Nothing changes with digital.
The idea that somehow smaller lenses and/or smaller sensors make better images simply defies physics. You may find that amazing and amusing but it's just physics, Jim.
