"RE: End of DX as we now know it?"
Let say you have two cameras set up identically. Aperture priority set wide open (f/2.8), ISO 100, center weighted metering. One camera has the 70-200 f/2.8 zoomed at 200mm the other has the 300mm f/2.8. Both cameras are set up to shoot the same test chart with the chart filling the frame of each camera. Both cameras should meter the chart exactly the same.Now if you stay in one place and just change lenses than the 200mm lens will see a wider angle of view and the metering would probably be different.
