This is obviously correct - I bought the 70-200/2.8 when I had the D70 and the 24-70/2.8 when I was using the D200. However, using high quality FX lenses nullifies two purported advantages of the DX system, lower cost and lower weight. As for the famous 1.5 crop factor, what you loose at the long end you gain at the wide end - I got the D700 to more fully utilize the 14-24/2.8 lens and I use TCs when needed. Besides, for a high resolution camera like the D800 you can quite easily crop the picture without any loss of IQ.
