>As the pixel density of the DX format reaches that of the FX

>lenses like the 24-70 f2.8 which are very expensive and not
>something the masses are going to be willing to pay for. What
>about the problem of airy diffraction? I would think for a
>camera with the pixel density of the D800 if you go beyond f/8
>you are going to start seeing the effects.

*sigh*

Please take a long and careful look at the following image.

The EXIF data is intact, but before you look at it, I will tell you that this is an uncropped, unsharpened image straight out of the D800. Is this good enough for you? And by the way, that's handheld with a strobe.

>I think Nikon should make an FX body that is to the D4 what
>the D700 is to the D3. I'd rather have that than a high pixel
>density DX D400.

And this is the problem. Many people want a "cheap" FX camera. Others want a pro DX camera. I am truly hoping Nikon gives us both.

I honestly fail to see the point of a cheap FX camera. Because it is going to force you into their modern FX glass in many cases. A D800 is $2999. A proposed FX camera would be somewhere in the $2000 range. So you save $1k. The common lenses everyone wants, like the 70-200, is $2398. The 85/1.4 is $2k. If you want long glass, it's all over $3k. These are not places the price sensitive buyer is going to go.
