Nikon is so busy courting Canon's customers - and encouraging Nikon shooters to "upgrade" to FX - that it is leaving some of its "captive" customers with a headache. Without knowing what Nikon's pro DX intentions are I find myself unwilling to invest in new Nikon equipment, specifically a 600 VR lens. After careful thought, I've decided to retain my old 500 f4 AF-S due to its portability (including flying) and easy handling. This opens the door to potentially shooting two systems - one just a pro DX camera and 600mm lens - as loath as I am to even entertain such an option. Of course, there's no guarantee at this point that either of the two major DSLR makers will offer a satisfactory pro DX DSLR. But Nikon will now have to regain my loyalty, having failed to retain it.
