I would like to see a crop of the pelican shot showing just the birds head. At this size it looks like focus is good. I can make out pupil of his eye.
1/125s is a pretty slow shutter speed @ 450mm even with a mono pod so that could contribute to some softness.
The image looks to be exposed fairly bright, almost over exposed. This kind of washes out the image a bit. Try bringing the exposure a little in post processing and then increase the contrast. The image may actually be a little sharper than it looks right now.
Same with the wood duck. Decrease the exposure a bit and add some contrast. It looks like he was pretty close to you and focus locked onto his neck. The lens was wide open so his bill and eye are just outside of the DoF.
