Bob

I was surprised at the complexity of the adjustments beyond exposure. I tried to get a similar effect with Shadow Recovery and both types of regular D-Lighting. I ended up having to go into Levels and Curves and create a custom curve to get close.

I'm inclined to use the approach suggested by Mick - to leave ADL on Low. That provides the benefit of being able to use ADL and take advantage of the ability to make post processing adjustments. But with that approach it does not impact exposure so turning it off in post will create the same image as turning it off in-camera.

This definitely calls for more testing of situations with imperfect exposure.
