I was very very happy with my D200. I have had a D300 for over a year now. It is a technological marvel - the level of control is fabulous and it is a joy to handle.
I am trying to love it, but....but I am frequently disappointed by the colour rendition. Cream colours come through as too white and greens just don't look right. the warm light of dawn and dusk in the tropics just doesn't seem right. It has affected my photography - I just shoot less.
I have downloaded the D2x modes and the portrait modes but - to my eyes - the colours look synthetic. I have even tried the latest firmware. I still love the look and feel of colours from the D200.
Maybe it's like going from Kodachrome (CCD) to Fujichrome (CMOS) I guess. But surely the D300 is a fabulous camera and there must be a work around this issue, without resorting to post-pro?
I also seem to get more bluey casts then I ever did with the D200 - where I simply cannot recall automatic white balance ever getting it wrong.
I am surely missing something but what is it?
Or should I just stick with the D200 and use the D300 in low light and for sports?
