Both my D200 bodies were purchased when Best Buy had the terrific sale in April. Both came with older firmware,1. something. I experienced the battery problem with both bodies and lived with it for some time as it always could be overcome and I could continue shooting. I was frankly afraid to make the change due to all the foreboding reports I had read and all the dire warnings Nikon gives about the procedure. Could find no one to do it locally for me so finnally said 'what the hell' and bit the bullet. Got two brand new CF cards and formatted. and downloaded the updates from Nikon. This was particularly distressing for me as I don't exactly know how to unzip a zipped file. Somehow I managed to download both files to my laptop and then change them to the CF caards. I then proceed with the upgrade. The 2 bodies actually took greatly different times to complete with the 'B' on one taking what I considered an extraordinarily long time. They both gave sucessful upgrade indications and have had no battery problems since on either body. It is still a scary operation that I don't look forward to ever doing again. Actually the 2 D200's replace 2 used D1x's that I find still to be a preferable body except for the miserable battery situation of the D1x. I actually feel the D2x would be the perfect body for me but still out of my price range. Just like the Pro bodies and have much more confidence in using them.
