My D2x was probably the only body I regret selling. I needed the money from it to fund a D3, but I loved the look of its files in my studio work. While I've had great service from the D200, D300, and now D700, the build quality and feel of the single digit bodies is hard to give up. As much as I think a D800 is a fantastic body I probably will not get one. What I really want is a D4(DX)- a D4 body with a DX format sensor. In other words an updated D2X. For much of my shooting the ideal combination would be a DX sensor with great high ISO performance and my 70-200 VR lens. I know the D7100 is a great body, but it is not what I want.
Thom Hogan believes that a flagship DX body will be announced this year. I hope he is right. Were it me I would fix the D2X and wait for the (hopefully) to be announced new DX body.
