Correct me if I am wrong but the historgram on your camera is reading from the jpeg image that is displayed. Not totally accurate, just a guide when shooting RAW.

And I too have found that imagery in my older D4 (202XXX) appears to exhibit more grainy than in my newer D4 (204XXX).
