For my travel work, I usually won't have a problem with a boom. My wife travels with me often and assists me for travel photography work and can handle that. We make a good team. Unlike assistants I have for events, she doesn't lug gear around, however. She invokes spousal prerogative. (LOL)
That being said, of the places I'm looking forward to capturing some video is up in the Svalbard archipelago (between the northern border of Norway and the North Pole), and also in Greenland, later this year. I'll be shooting wildlife, such as polar bears, whales, dolphins, seals and walruses. No boom there of course. I'll go with some kind of camera mounting.
