Quality microphones are XLR based, so you would normally need a break-out box for one. Sennheisers are good.The main thing to think about with microphones is that you need to get them close to what you are filming. This usually means having them on long poles with even longer cables, or using radio mics.There are some reasonable priced mics designed for dSLRs, of which one is the Hahnel. However, they all suffer from the same problem — they are on the camera rather than close to the action.
