As far as "He who must not be named," I haven't read him in a long time, nor will I be reading him anytime in the foreseeable future. To say "He who must not be named" is unreliable is to make a gross understatement, to say the least. Based on what you've said he said, it's clearly just more of the same garbage from him.
On to something more productive.
It's highly likely, the D4 you're getting doesn't have the latest A/B firmware as it was only released on January 28th. On the other hand the L (Distortion Control) firmware should be the latest, as it came out in June.
By the way, to update the D4, you have to put the update file on the top level of the memory card in the primary memory card slot of your D4.
As to the XQD card. The Sony H series cards are noticeably faster than the CF cards such as the Sandisk Extreme Pro card, however, while I've switched to them as my primary card, and am purchasing only XQD cards at this point, I'm not sure the H series is worth the price differential. On the other hand, the new S series is worth the difference, in my opinion.
If you're ordering XQD cards, I recommend only purchasing the S series cards at this point. B&H is already out of H series 32GB cards as they ran a big sale to clear their inventory of them. The 16GB cards, in my opinion, are too small to consider. Right now B&H is out of 32GB XQD Series S cards.
