Photoshop will also give you a actuations without adding more software.

Open a tif or jpg, go to File>File Info. Then click the Advanced tab and click Schema, then look for Image Number.

I sent a D300 in with around 205,000 actuations for a shutter replacemet. I thought I checked right after it came back and remembered the actuation count being about the same as when I sent it in, but I checked the same camera and it shows 160,000. It must have been set back to zero after the service.
