I just got my D3X back from Nikon Warranty Service, where it had some work done on the bayonet mount and autofocus operation. The camera was also completely checked, cleaned and given a clean bill of health.
Here's the thing: I mounted a 50mm 1.4 AF-D and got an fEE message. I went by the book - checked the aperture ring - yes, locked in the highest value position. I then cleaned the contacts with pure alcohol and re-mounted. Same result. Worried, I mounted a 17-35mm 2.8 lens - same thing. 35-70mm 2.8 - nope. Can't take a shot, fEE message blinking.
Then, I picked up a few of my older manual Ai-S mount lenses - 50mm 1.8, 28mm 2.8, Leica 50mm 1.4 - no problems at all. Camera works fine. All AF G-lenses also worked fine.
What is going on? Did anyone experience this problem?
