If you're going to connect them directly together, you'll need to manually set the IP addresses of both. I'd recommend, instead, that you plug both into a home router that will automatically assign addresses and such. Then look at the status of each to get their addresses.

Then, when you have the address of the camera, you just type something like this into the address bar of your browser:
http://192.168.1.212/

Also, if you're looking at the manual that much, you might want to get a digital copy. I have it on my iPad, and it's a heck of a lot easier.
