What is the slight difference likely due to? Error in measurement? The filter over the sensor? Image processing? The D700 came out later, and scores a bit lower.

Edit: it just so happens that Thom Hogan decided to state on his website, minutes after I posted this, that we shouldn't be concerned about little differences like this. I agree. It's not important. But it still makes me darn curious.
