Thanks for mustering up the bravery to share such an experience Jim. I imagine most of us snappers can relate to it, particularly the part when the blood temp falls to freezing as your valuable equipment plummets to the ground. My D3S hit the carpet with a 70-200mm lens attached, and I still recall the strange noises I made. And then that horrible feeling when the camera fails to operate. When I took it to the local Nikon repairers, all the service guy did was use a screwdriver to prise free the mirror (the bump misaligned it) and I was back in business. No charge! I was lucky, but it makes you doubly wary of dropping your equipment again.
