I had a D200 for a couple years (actually I still have it) and lusted after a D2XS, but finally the D3 came out and the D200 went onto the shelf. I still use it for "studio" work because the built-in flash allows me to use two flashes off-camera.
Note that there's a D2X(S) spreadsheet pinned to the front page menu. I think it's an easy way to go through the menus and learn what's there. Easier to look at it all on the screen than sitting with the camera on your lap and playing with the menu buttons.
