I agree that if a person wants to use some kind of protection, they should use something other than the plastic protectors Nikon provides with most of their cameras. IMO I also think Nikon's protectors are very low quality and scratch very easily. They aren't very clear even when they are brand new.
I now prefer to just not use a protector on my cameras since the company I work for has never used a protector for several years on their D200s and their screens still have no noticeable scratches. Their cameras are heavily used by several employees, so I'm not saying this lightly when I say the screens are still in good condition. These LCD screens seem to be very durable.
