I agree that the D3 is a lot more camera for the money and the better investment.

However, "Hands On" is more important.
You are almost certainly going to get your best shots with the more comfortable camera body.
Not necessarily the lighter one.

I think the purpose of the "Gift" is to put those cameras to better use.
And the price even though to low is there to give incentive for you to use and care for it.
My experience is that when I give something for free.
They usually treat it like it has no value which is very disturbing to me.
