The D3 is more value perhaps, but is a very different camera. If you are going to use a 70-200 or larger lens (i.e. heavy and big) its size will not be much of an issue, but if you like to have a small walk-around lens, either a prime or maybe a 24-120 or similar, the D3 body is pretty big.

I've come to LIKE the big body.

My wife on the other hand wouldn't take my D300 in favor of her D80 as it was "way too big".

How important is size for you?
