Definitely the D3s. I don't regret selling my mint D3s for $4200 and moving to the D4, but if I didn't actually *need* the D4, the D3s would have fulfilled my needs for the things it excels at just as well. If you don't have a specific need for a D4 feature, the D3s is the way to go. It was the most satisfying camera I ever owned.
I'm using my D4 for more product photography than I used the D3s for (my departed D3x handled that work.) That surprised me, because I expected my D800 to fulfill that role, but the D4 is doing a fine job with fewer diffraction woes at f/32, so that's where I ended up.
The D3s is still my champ for concerts and sports; the D4 is just as good, but not better.
