Glenn,

It is very possible that the metering switch contacts are loose and that even though you set it for one mode, it may actually meter in another mode. I seem to remember reading somewhere this was a problem on some earlier production runs...

But ... Before you bring it in for a service check do the following...

... Check custom settings f4 ( assign FN button) ... are you by any chance pressing that button ... lets say its set for "matrix" so even though you choose "spot" if you press that button it will set for "matrix" or whatever metering mode its set for !
