All the professional photographers who field tested the D4 had nothing but great things to say about it. The LCD and left focus point issues arose when the camera went into full production. Problems with some batches of parts and calibration on the assembly line it seems.

The first/early D4 shipments are long gone, so you're okay to buy now IMO.

Probably not. Canon has its own quality control problems too from time to time. Every manufacturer has quality control problems from time to time. Your string of great cameras demonstrates how well Nikon usually does. Early adoption teething problems are not reasons to be surprised. Besides that, my D4 is perfect.
