OK, so you all know that Nikon graciously sent me a brand new D4 as a replacement for one which had to be sent back multiple times. There are no signs of the new one being a refurbished unit. The S/No is MUCH later than my "old" one.
Today, I wanted to take a small number of test shots of a target, using LV. I happened to be using a 70-200mm/2.8 VR. These would be the very first shots with the new body.
The camera is set for 14-bit RAW files on the XQD and JPEG fine on the CF. The lower LCD on the rear of the camera confirms that setting. However, simply pressing the LV button (the LV selector is set for stills) causes the indicators for BOTH cards to show only JPEG.
I cannot find any setting which makes the camera save an image in RAW when LV is used, even when both cards are set for RAW only. The indicators change to JPEG as soon as I touch the LV button.
Firmware is at rev. 1.02 for both A and B. 1.006 for L. There is nothing later on the Nikon downloads site.
Will someone who has a D4 please check out the above and let me/us know if you are able to store images as RAW when using LV? If you ARE able to confirm that your D4 "behaves as expected" in this respect, PLEASE suggest what I could be doing wrong! I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to find my mistake for at least an hour.
I can't believe that I'm the only person who has attempted to use this combination of settings! In fact, it's what I always use when a PC lens is installed - but I haven't needed to use one since moving to a D4 from my beloved D3 and D3X.
My D800 happily complies with my request to store images as RAW when in LV...
I'm beginning to think I desperately need a vacation!
