Excellent commentary, Mr. Ferguson, and it reminds me that we all need to refresh our basic knowledge of how our equipment works. It has been quite a while since I was trying to accommodate this in my small brain, but your comments do refresh my memory. I dare say in event photography, not portraiture or calmly posed shots, a little softness is generally acceptable if not desired. However, I dare say you have vindicated the instructor, and I now have a greater respect for him as I will give him the benefit of the doubt that you have inserted!
